About David Moore
When painting I find an imaginative aspect of personality coming to the fore. Choosing the appropriate canvass size, selecting the palette to use, deciding how to use the light in the painting & right through to the final touches are all decisions that make me stand back & think, & mentally ‘discuss’ what I am doing, which I really enjoy
When painting a chosen landscape, I try to find something that is unique to that particular area or view that helps give the canvas its’ own unique ‘take’ on what is being produced. Creating a moment when the sun has just peeked through the cloud base and highlighted a small part of the view, be it on a patch of water, a mountain top, a tree’s foliage or a rock or two.
I build my pictures using a number of semi-transparent layers of colour to build the depth & background, with often the final layer being a solid colour to help highlight a subject or area.
The whole process of building the picture from scratch is a creation, and as such has to evolve at its’ own pace & form a life of its’ own. As such, I will often have between 3 & 5 works on the go at any given time which allows me to step back for a week or two, channel my thoughts into another work, and then come back with fresh eyes to the original piece.
As an artist I find real satisfaction in looking at the final piece, judging it to be finished, and adding my signature.
